DeepFreeze

Personal 2020

Ultra Low Temperature freezers are clunky, out of date, yet essentials tools used by researchers globally. How can they be re-designed to better suit users’ needs, considering usage, storage, and workflow?

Ideation

After synthesizing my research and reaching a design objective, I gathered some formal inspiration for the product and began ideating on form and function.

Samsung Deepfreeze

Bolstering a re-thought shelving system that utilizes a simple and intuitive numbering system and a web-app to streamline storing, locating, and logging the information about the samples contained within, the Deepfreeze is a total redesign of the outdated ULT freezers in laboratories around the world.

Web-app Integration

An app would be produced and used alongside the newly redesigned freezer system. Using the app, users could log members of the lab so their information was always easily accessible, search the freezer for the locations of specific samples, and use the system to generate new labels for a new experiment.

Front-Panel Screen

This app would also be usable on the front panel screen on the device. By searching for sample locations directly on the screen before opening the freezer, users would limit temperature loss that could potentially happen while the door is open, and would ensure no damage to samples
